NNC Mug Rug Exchange: The Crazy Quilt

Hi! I know it's been a while since you heard from me doing anything craft related. Before you get excited, thank you for asking if I'm still alive. I was just overwhelmed by the lack of interest in my sudden absence from the crafting community.

Alas, I'm still kicking, though barely. But I know you're not interested in listening to why my life sucks so I'll get right to the point of this post.

You might remember the Mug Rug exchange I received from Astrid of Mauritius (http://grandmasredneedle.blogspot.com)?

After sooooo long, I finally delivered mine to my partners! Yes I hear you gasping in shock; how can I delay my exchange for 3 months, you ask.

I was busy mah my day JOBS (note the non-singular) don't allow me to go to the post office to mail my stuff.

Anyway here's the first of the mug rugs, the 'western' mug rug which was for Zarina of http://concerningzarina.wordpress.com

Yes yes yes the bindings are all wonky.

God you people are so judgmental! Give a guy a break would you? It's only my second time working on quilt binding ok.

Anyway, I wanted to try some 'crazy quilting' on this mug rug. I find it hard somehow to do the 'crazy quilting' because my mind keeps trying to straighten out the pieces! I was trying to keep the 'crazy' in as best I could.

Funny how the 'crazy' unleashes itself at times when you least want it but when you need it to it doesn't rear its head.

Close-up of the embroidered teacup.

Speaking of teacups, if the mug rug is called a mug rug then shouldn't the embroidery design be that of a mug? Or at least it be called a tea rug instead of a mug rug?

The woman (yes, it was probably a woman and no I'm not going to bother doing research to verify this) who invented the mug rug must have made a mistake when trying to sew up a place mat because she was a noob so to cover line she calls it a mug rug because it was too small to be a placemat and too big pulak to be a coaster.

I truly enjoy creating stories. I should be an author :)

The complete set I scratched up for the exchange.

I actually DID want to get Zarina a coffee mug but I had already stitched a teacup on it so I had to get a teacup instead. I included a little teabag pouch, a tea biscuit saucer and some oat biscuits.

Oh by the way, if you haven't yet heard of the name 'TEA BISCUIT SAUCER' anywhere else, you read it here first and it was coined by The Heart of Paul :)

Stay tuned for another post on the Chinese mugrug (I know right, who comes up with these terms?!)

To start a 'crazy' patchwork, you need to begin with a 5-sided piece of fabric; not square or rectangle! ;)
