NNC Mug Rug Exchange: The Chinese Teacup Rug

Here's another one of the mug rugs I made for the NNC Mugrug Exchange.

This one is a 'Chinese' one. MW, the Exchange Mom decided to have two types of mugrugs and the participants can choose either one or both do participate in. Of course, with me being me, I chose to do both.

This exchange is for the Chinese Tea Cup Rug, which was decidedly smaller than the other mugrug I did..

Anyway, this mugrug went to Sally of http://bagncraft.blogspot.com. Sally is an entrepreneur and she sells handmade bags and owl dolls LOL. You can see all these in her blog by clicking on the link.

Now, looking at the following pictures you WILL agree to:

1. Ignore the wobbly lines of my apparent lack of skill in quilting in a curve, which is evident near the bottom middle of the design when I tersasul and 'went off track'.

2. Ignore creases and folds that were caused by lack of skill in measuring fabric to size and the stubborn laziness of not using pins when sewing, which brought about the combined disaster of having puckers on the face of my work.

3. Ignore failed attempt at using zig zag stitch to applique different fabrics.

3. Agree with colour scheme; I am a guy, I cannot colour-coordinate. And I am perpetually depressed so I don't do 'cute rainbow-y colours'. I do drab.

4. Compliment me for my awesomeness in needle turn applique, which I (self praise) think I do quite well *winks at Janet Chan*

I was aiming to make the teacup rug look vintage. Like something out of a Shanghai 1942 setting. Hence the Cheongsam appliqued on it and the chinese writings and choice of colours.

"Each flower enters each eye differently" (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder)

There was another Chinese idiom of the same meaning that sounded prettier but it was too long and some of the characters had too many 'strokes' so I settled this simplified one.

Here's the complete set I sent to Sally which included a teabag pouch containing 3 types of chinese teas, a teacup and long saucer and some biscuits.

Those 'thin biscuits' I included are vegetarian biscuits which are sooooooo good!!! I couldn't stop munching on them. I thought Sally might like them with her Chinese Teas so I included them.

By the way, do the Chinese even have biscuits with their tea? Do they even have an 'evening tea time'?

Here's the tea cup and saucer again. The saucer looks like a surgeon's kidney tray LOL!

I'll write a post about the chinese mug rug I received from Mel which came in a beautiful box next! Stay tuned! :)
