Marzipan Modelling - Angry Birds

I got invited to an 11 year old's birthday party last month :D

It was Nik's son's birthday party and 'Uncle Paul' got the invitation just a few days before. The party theme was...Angry Birds! LOL we even had to wear red to the party.

I couldn't decide what to get for the birthday until the other half of my split personality, aka Lionel, told me that I should make something for the young man.

So I did.

The red bird doesn't look very angry though. And the green pig reminds me of a friend.

My colleagues at the pastry department were so nice as to oblige this insignificant cook and let him use a corner of the pastry kitchen. I returned there in between work as often as I could to finish modeling some marzipan into Angry Bird characters. The birds look silly in marzipan. I should have done it with sugar instead.

Because of my bipolar manic depression; the 'Lionel' episodes during which I turn into a 9 feet god-like being known as Envy (no I'm not green, The Hulk is green. I wouldn't turn into such a horrid colour) my colleagues let me help myself to everything I needed, from the butter to the icing sugar to the food colourings. I particularly choosing the colours!

Yes, I was six years old all over again.

Everything was assembled over some buttercream icing (the light green 'grounds' and dark green 'grass'). I used Italian Meringue Buttercream ,which was my favourite kind of frosting, after Chocolate Ganache :D

Because the 'oldest child' at the party was too big to play in the party games, he had to content himself with sitting at the table with colour pencils and colour some angry bird pictures.

Watching the kids play brought back some memories of how fun it was as a kid.

What prudes we become when we grow into adulthood. I want to be a kid again!!

Anyways I received an SMS from the boy (kids these days have handphones!!) and also from the mother thanking me again for the cupcakes. I'm happy :)
